Classes & Events

MADE is more than just rentals: we also want to be a place where you can gather to stitch, learn, make friends, and find community.

We want you to learn the best skills for your creations! Whether you’re new to sewing or itching to learn new techniques, we have classes for all skill levels and interests.

Our periodic and perpetual clubs such as Down with EPP, Splendid Sampler, and our Finishing School are a way for you to forge new friendships and work on long-term projects together.

LA101: Intro to Longarm Quilting – Are you curious about long arm quilting? Learn about the different features of a long arm machine, how quilts are prepared for loading onto the frame, and the basics of quilting pantograph and free motion designs. This class is required if you want to rent time on our long arm machines. $125

LA102: Longarm Rental Certification – Learn the rules of the road for running our equipment, and get your first quilt ready for rental, including choosing pattern, thread, backing and batting. This is an add-on to LA101 and includes a Renter Kit with everything you need to get started.  $73.44 including tax

LA103: Freemotion Freedom I – Fabulous Freemotion Fills – This class introduces you to the basic shapes used to fill in backgrounds and blocks. Get started free motion quilting on a long arm with basic fills you’ll use again and again. Learn to combine designs for flow and continuity and practice stitching them out on a sample project. Get comfortable moving the machine in stitch-regulated and non-regulated mode, practice the techniques and shapes we share in class, and learn the art of quilting outside the lines!  Renters must take this class to rent time as a free motion quilter.  $150.

Die Cutting Renter Certification – This 30-minute class covers the basics of operating our die cutting machines and preparing your fabric for cutting. This class is required if you want to rent time on our die-cutting machines. Technically, this is short enough that we don’t bother scheduling group classes, so if you have not rented with us before, please select it as an add-on when you book your first session.  $15.

PA206: Pleats to Meet YouAn interesting twist on your standard quilt block with this show stopping pleating technique, & you’ll leave with a com-pleated table runner. Kit & pattern included. Taught by Cheryl Sleboda. $68.

PA207: Block of the Month – Passport to Eastern Blooms – Hanami – Join us on our Hanami adventure with a skill-building BOM and eight complementary quilt patterns representing each region of Japan. You’ll receive a passport for your travels; make a 58” x 58” quilt in 9 monthly sessions. Includes in-person demos, kit and patterns. $375.

PA208: Modern Candy Twist Hexie Quilt – Learn how to make English paper pieced hexagons using pre-cut fabrics and arrange them in this fun and easy modern take on a wall or lap quilt. This is a hand-piecing class so no machines needed!$29.

PA209: Hopscotch Block Party Exchange – Make new friends, swap fabric, and learn a new quilt block in this fun & energizing class. We’ll be making blocks, slicing them up, and exchanging them in class. No matching seams required! Class fee includes pattern and fabric to complete blocks. $65.

PA210: Orange Peel with a Twist of Lime – Take your Orange Peel blocks to a new level with these easy die-cutting and machine applique techniques. Creating intricate curved blocks is no longer out of reach! You’ll leave class with the skills you need to finish this project plus get all your orange peels cut during class. $60.

PA211: Learn to EPP – Want to join our EPP club but don’t know how to EPP? Come to EPP club an hour early to learn. You’ll get a small kit of EPP supplies to get you started! $15.

SW101: Thread Mastery – Do you think your sewing machine will only run one type of thread? Let us open your world with a variety of threads, teach you to use the proper tension and needle, and you’ll walk away confident that you can use any high-quality thread you wish. Featuring a variety of Superior and Aurifil threads for you to try, taught by a Certified Threadologist. $35.

Down with EPP Club – Are you down with EPP? Yeah, you know me! Join us for this open-sew club especially for lovers of English Paper Piecing. Are you working on a Grandmother’s Flower Garden, Dear Jane, Millefiori, or just making hexies without a plan? We don’t care, just bring yourself and your project for a relaxing evening. There will be space for cutting and hand-sewing. $5/session

MADE Grand Opening – Join us for our Open House and Grand Opening event March 29 – April 1. We promise to be open during regular hours so you can drop in anytime.  Free.

Chicago Sewing Social – Greater Chicagoland area sewing social. This group will hold monthly socials (sometimes after-hours sewing at a quilt shop, sometimes at a restaurant) just so we can get together with like-minded people and meet new sewing friends. $15.

Power Planning Day 2018Step out of your business for one day and do some focused planning to get your year off to a great start. Includes training on revenue generation, branding and social media. $85.

Make a Blanket Day – Calling all Blanketeers! Come help us cut, piece, press, trim, and bind our donation quilts. Free.

Class Policies

  • Only paid students are allowed to view or attend classes.
  • Bring listed supplies with you. We work hard to minimize items you need to bring with you to class; if it’s on the list, you need it. If you have questions about any item, please call in advance of your class and we will try to accommodate you.
  • In the event you need to cancel your registration, and you do so at least 7 days before class, you will be issued a store credit to be used toward a future class.  Within 7 days, you will only receive credit if we are able to fill your spot in the class from a waiting list.
  • MADE reserves the right to cancel a class for any reason, including due to low enrollment. Enrollment numbers vary by class and instructor. Sign up with a friend to minimize the possibility of cancellations for this reason!
  • In the event MADE cancels a class, you will be notified via email and invited to transfer to an alternate date. If you are unable to take the rescheduled class, your fees will be refunded in full.
